Potential postdoctoral positions within the IPG

The Information Physics Group at the University of New Mexico generally employs several Postdoctoral Research Fellows, depending on the availability of funds. Postdocs work in the research groups of Professor Carlton Caves, Ivan Deutsch, or JM Geremia.

Professor Caves seeks candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Characterization and quantification of quantum nonlocality and entanglement.
  • Theory of quantum-limited metrology.
  • Theory of quantum chaos.
  • Theory of quantum error correction and fault-tolerant computation.
  • Theory of quantum measurements and open quantum systems.

Professor Deutsch seeks candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Theoretical atomic-molecular-optical physics or physical chemistry.
  • Quantum optics and quantum information theory.
  • Coherent control theory.
  • Theory of quantum chaos and quantum control.
  • Theory of open quantum systems and the quantum/classical correspondence.

Professor Geremia seeks candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Experimental atomic-molecular-optical physics and quantum optics.
  • Experiment and theory of quantum control and quantum feedback.
  • Experiment and theory of quantum-limited measurements.

A successful applicant must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. before assuming the position. The new hires will be expected to conduct independent research as well as to participate in the supervision of graduate students.

Currently available postdoctoral positions

The next available position within the IPG is expected to be within Professor Caves's group. The position will commence between January 2009 and September 2009, with a preference for earlier times within this period. Professor Caves will begin seeking applications in September 2008. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a statement of research interests and plans to Ms. Jennie Peer at jpeer@unm.edu. Applicants should also supply a list of three persons who can be contacted to write letters of recommendation. UNM is an equal-opportunity/affirmative-action employer.
