Course description

This 7-week course introduces quantum learning theory. It will primarily be focused on quantum state tomography and property testing. Much of the course will be focused on proving sample-complexity upper- and lower-bounds for these different tasks.

Prerequisites and textbooks

This course assumes some familiarity with quantum mechanics and probability theory. There will be a collection of readings that will highlight the relevant parts of representation theory that we will need. The primary notes that we will draw from are the following:

  • Jacob Beckey's Quantum Learning Theory course notes (UIUC, Spring 2026)
  • John Wright's Quantum Learning Theory course notes (UC Berkeley, Spring 2024)
  • Assignments

Participants are required to read the assigned materials before each lecture (here). Additionally, participants are encouraged to present lectures.
